What is translation

The basic principle of translation is to change from one language (the source language) to another language (the target language), while keeping the same meaning and incorporating the nuances of the original text. The cultural background of the first language should be adapted where appropriate to suit the target language.

Technical, Scientific, Commercial, Legal and Financial Translation

Working experience

Oxford Translation's policy over the last 22 years has been to use whenever possible translators who have practical experience in the field covered by the document they have to translate.

Our translators, who all translate only into their native language, usually have working experience in the field concerned, whether it is engineering, law, finance, chemistry, medicine or any other profession. We have, for example, engineers who translate from Spanish into English and we have other translators, also engineers, who translate from English to Spanish. The same principle is applied for al other languages.

Study

A good translator needs to be able to keep up with the latest developments in his or her chosen field by visiting specialized exhibitions and careful reading of technical and professional journals.

Our translators take care to develop their knowledge and follow the latest trends in the industrial, business and professional worlds in order to produce even better results. This applies not only to French translations, German or Spanish translations, but to all the languages throughout the world, inlcuding those of the Indian Sub-continent, the Midddle East and the Far East.

Individual glossaries

Companies often use their own in-house technical or business vocabulary, so we set up glossaries for each client, to ensure that the same terms are used in future translations. Wherever possible we use the same translator for a particular client.

Translators usually specialize in only a few technological or professional fields - often because they themselves have working experience in that particular industry or profession.

The use of qualified people who have experience in mechanical, hydraulic, electronic, electrical or chemical engineering ensures that our technical translations are completely acceptable to the client. Translators who have first-hand experience of the medical, legal, marketing, or financial worlds also form some of our most welcome recruits.

Proof-Reading

Translation and proof-reading are closely connected. In addition to systematic proof-reading of our own translations (included in the price of the translation), Oxford Translation also offers a proof-reading service for documents which have been translated elsewhere.

This service is separate from our translation service and is invoiced by the word or by the hour. Please contact us for a detailed quotation.

Sworn Translation

In many countries, a sworn translation (by a legal expert translator who is appointed by the Court) is required for official formalities. Oxford Translation can provide such sworn translations both to private individuals and to companies. Please contact us for a quotation.
